# AMD Adrenalin: driver, FSR and Anti-Lag without the marketing

> A practical AMD Radeon setup on Windows 11: driver install, factory reset, FSR, Anti-Lag 2, Chill and the settings worth measuring.

**Tested on**

- Build: 26300.9457
- Edition: Pro (26H2)
- Architecture: x64
- Evidence: E1
- Verified: 2026-10-28

## The short answer

Install the **AMD chipset driver** (for the motherboard) and the **Radeon Adrenalin** package from AMD’s official support page. Use **Factory Reset** only when you need a clean driver state, not on every update.

FSR, Anti-Lag 2 and frame generation are **game-dependent**. A toggle in Adrenalin does nothing if the game does not implement it.

## Driver install

1. Download the correct package for the GPU and Windows build.
2. Close games and capture tools.
3. Run the installer; choose **Factory Reset** if you are troubleshooting or changing GPU generations.
4. Reboot.
5. Verify with `Get-PnpDevice -Class Display` and Adrenalin’s driver version.

Do not install a “driver pack” or force a laptop OEM GPU onto a generic package without checking the OEM page. Laptop power/display switching can depend on the OEM build.

## FSR: what it is and is not

FidelityFX Super Resolution renders at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs a larger image. It can raise FPS, but:

- it needs game support (or a driver-level feature, where available);
- image quality depends on the preset and the game;
- FSR is not “free performance”; it trades resolution/detail for frame rate.

Test at your actual resolution and quality preset. A 1080p FSR Quality result does not predict a 1440p native experience.

## Anti-Lag 2 and Chill

- **Anti-Lag 2** is a game-integrated latency reduction; it requires support. It is not the same as a global “reduce latency” checkbox.
- **Radeon Chill** caps frame rate based on movement/load to save power. It can reduce heat/noise, but it is not a competitive-latency feature.
- **Frame generation** inserts frames; it can improve perceived smoothness but adds latency and artifacts. Measure, do not assume.

## A measured workflow

1. Set a repeatable scene and resolution.
2. Record baseline: average FPS, 1% low, frame time, GPU power/temperature.
3. Enable one feature (FSR Quality, Anti-Lag 2, Chill).
4. Re-run the same scene.
5. Keep it only if the result is repeatable and the image quality is acceptable.

## What not to do

- Do not stack Adrenalin, a vendor “gaming” overlay and a third-party tweaker.
- Do not enable every “boost” toggle at once.
- Do not use a modified BIOS or registry tweak from a forum.
- Do not compare FSR-on numbers with native numbers and call it a GPU victory.
